The Kalakar story.

Every Desi creator knows this feeling. The video is done, and now the subtitles take hours. For Desi languages it is worse, because the tools do not understand us. This is how we started to fix that.

    You finish the video. Then you start the subtitles, and this part takes the longest. For English, many tools can help. For Hindi, Urdu, Tamil or Punjabi, almost none. The few that exist make many mistakes.

    In December 2024, we started Kalakar. It is for Desi creators and editors. Our first goal was simple: captions that understand your language, so you do not fix every line by hand. Made by Desi Creators, For Desi Creators.

    We shared it before it was ready

    On 28 April 2025, we gave editors the first beta. It was not finished. But real people could use it and tell us what was wrong. Their feedback shaped what Kalakar is today.

    More than 200,000 people use it

    Kalakar now supports 20 Desi languages, with up to 97% accuracy in the major ones. You can use the plugins for Premiere and Resolve, or export SRT and alpha files. It is made by Desi creators, for Desi creators.
